ロンドンを出発し、エディンバラへ向かう途中でヨークへと立ち寄る。


Left London for Edinburgh. On the way stopped by York.

1世紀につくられた周囲2kmの城壁と、中世に拡大された4.5kmの城壁とが中心部を取囲んでいる。城壁の上は歩いて回ることもできる。


2 km city wall, built in 1st century, and 4.5 km one, built in medieval age, surround the center.
We can walk on the top of them.

以前イギリスの郊外レッチワースへ行ったときもリスがたくさん居たけれど、ここでも沢山見かけた。
レッチワースのリスに比べてとても人なつこい。


Before, when went to Letchworth, a suburb city in England, I can see many squirrels, here too.
And they were more friendly.

「ヨークミンスター」(1220-1472)はイギリス最大のゴシック建築。


"York Minster" (1220-1472) is the largest gothic architecture in England.

ヨークミンスターのネーブの幅はヨーロッパ最大級。

The Nave of York Minster is one of the widest in Europe.

通称「5人姉妹の窓」は高さ16メートルにも及ぶランセット窓。


"Five Sisters Window" are lancet windows of 16 meters high.

「チャプターハウス」は八角形の壁全てがステンドグラスで覆われていて、そこまで大きな部屋ではないけれどとても荘厳な雰囲気が漂っている。


8 walls in "the Chapter House" are composed by stained glasses. It is not very large room, but I felt admiring.

ヨークは昔の街並が保存されつつ、住人観光客双方に向けた商店がならび、大変賑わっていた。


York keeps its original city-scape and, at the same time, there are shops and restaurants for both local peoples and tourists and it was so busy.

城壁の上を歩いて市内を一周し、駅へと向かう。
今晩はエディンバラで宿泊。


Walked on the top of the city-wall and went toward the station.
Today will sleep in Edinburgh.
