現代建築の宝庫、バーゼルへ。
フランスとドイツに国境を接するこの街には大変多くの現代建築が建っている。
駅にある情報センターで建築ガイドをもらいいざ出発。
To Basel, full of modern architectures.
In Basel, bordered by France and Germany, there are so many modern architectures.
Got an architecture map in the information center and started.

余分な装飾がそぎ落とされている分、空間の大きさがより伝わってくる。
モダニズムのもつ簡素が日本人の抱く礼拝空間にはあっている様な気がする。

バスにのってヴィトラ社へ。
バスで30分程度だけど国境をまたぎドイツに入るので、スイスパスを持っていても追加で2.2ユーロ必要。
ヴィトラは多くのデザイナーズ家具を販売している世界的企業。日本でもよくその名を目にする。
1981年の火災で工場のほとんどが焼失したが、その後世界中の著名な建築家を招いて再建を行なった。
敷地内の建物を見るには一日に何度か行なわれるツアー（独・英）への参加が必要。
Take on a bus to Vitra.
It takes about 30 minutes but it is in Germany, so if you have Swiss-Pass you need extra 2.2 euro (not CHF).
Vitra is a world wide company to sell designer's furnitures. In Japan we see the name frequently.
A fire in 1981 burned down all most all buildings on the site. After that Vitra invited famous architects all over the world and made them to built.
To see the buildings, you need to join a tour (German or English) held in several times a day.

焼失した工場のレンガをカーテンウォールとして再利用している。

He reused bricks of burned down factory as curtain walls.
「ヴィトラ消防署」(ザハ・ハディッド、1994）
ザハの処女作。現在は消防署として使われておらず一般に公開されている。
"Vitra Fire Station" (Zaha Hadid, 1994)
Zaha's first realized project. Today it isn't used as a fire station but be opened for public.
「ヴィトラファクトリー」(SANAA、工事中）
外装工事を失敗したらしく未だに工事中。

They made mistake in facades and it is still under construction.
「カンファレンス・パヴィリオン」(安藤忠雄、1993）
安藤忠雄の国外における処女作。ザハの消防署とこの建物に求められた施行水準の高さによって、この地域の建設業者のレベルが上がったらしい。
また、この日はヴィトラのオーナーの孫の誕生日会が行なわれていた。贅沢。
"Conference Pavilion" (Tadao Ando, 1993)
His first realized project in the outside of Japan. A tour guide said that strict demand to Zaha's fire station and this building trained local builders.
And this day, a birthday party of Vitra's owner's grandchild was held here. Envy.
「ヴィトラハウス」(ヘルツォーク&ド・ムーロン、2010）
ヴィトラのショールーム。家型のチューブがかみ合いながら積層している。

Show rooms of Vitra. House-shaped tubes are stacked by lapping.
家型の窓を背にモデルルームを設けるというアイデア。
かみ合いながら積層されている事で、上下の空間のつながりが生んでいる。
The idea is to make a model room in front of the house-shaped window.
Because they laps each other, there are many connection between different level floors.
イームズのラウンジチェアーの公開製作所もあり、オーダメードも可能。
There is also an open atelier of Lounge Chair by Eames. We can make order-made chair there.
バーゼルへ戻り、「バイエラー美術館」(レンゾ・ピアノ、2000）へ。
Backed to Basel and went to "Beyeler museum" (Renzo Piano, 2000).
帰り路、不動産屋で見つけた「ハウス・ルーディン」(ヘルツォーク&ド・ムーロン、1998）の広告。
120万ユーロ（土地代は不明）。
On the way to the station, found the ad of "Haus Rudin" (Herzog & De Meuron, 1998).
1, 200, 000 euro (don't know whether a land price is included or not).
夜のバーゼル駅。バーゼルは建築を見て回ろうと思ったら2日は必要。
Basel station in the night. At least 2 days are needed to see architectures in Basel.
